Only Eating Ramen at the Han River? You're Missing Out. We Had a Feast.

Four friends sitting on a picnic mat by the Han River at sunset with pizza, fried chicken, and cup ramen, seen from behind

Whenever my friends and I meet up in Seoul, we run into the same problem.

What should we eat?

One person wants Korean BBQ. Another wants pizza. Someone else says they're still full from lunch and wants something different.

We spent ages trying to decide, but nobody could agree. So we went to a café first.

We chatted over coffee, and before we knew it, quite a bit of time had passed. Then someone had an idea.

"Why don't we just go to the Han River?"

Nobody objected.

All we needed was a picnic mat

Luckily, I always keep a picnic mat in my car.

When we got to a park along the Han River, we found a spot with a view of the water and spread the mat out on the grass. Sitting there, surrounded by small groups of people hanging out, it finally felt like we'd gone somewhere.

We talked for a while without any particular plan. Then we started getting hungry. This time, for real.

One of my friends opened a food delivery app.

"So, what are we ordering?"

Our food debate started all over again. Thankfully, it didn't take long this time. We settled on pizza, fried chicken, and ramen.

We should have done that from the start.

How do you get food delivered to a picnic spot?

There was one small problem. It wasn't easy to tell the delivery driver exactly where we were sitting in such a big park.

So, in the delivery instructions, we asked the driver to meet us near a convenience store.

A little while later, we got a message saying our food had arrived. Two of us walked over to the convenience store, picked everything up, and carried it back to our spot.

Soon, we had pizza, fried chicken, and ramen spread out in the middle of the mat. Just a few hours earlier, we couldn't even agree on what to eat for dinner. Now we were trying to decide what to eat first.

As we ate, the sky slowly changed color, and lights began to appear along the river.

If we'd gone to a restaurant, we probably would have finished eating, paid the bill, and moved on somewhere else. Here, there was no reason to hurry. We could take a break when we were full and keep talking for as long as we wanted.
